The Ins and Outs of Botox – When Results Will Show And How Long Will They Last

There are many physical changes that come with age – most visibly, facial wrinkles. Commonly found around the eyes or on the forehead, these skin lines tend to form and deepen with time. For many plastic surgeons, Botox Cosmetic is the first-line treatment of choice.

Botox is a toxin derived from Clostridium Botulinum, and it works by relaxing the thin facial muscles that cause wrinkles in areas where it is injected. When the muscles relax, they can no longer contract to produce a line in the overlying skin.

If you are considering Botox for the first time, here are the answers to some common questions.

How Long Before I See Results?

This is different for each patient; however, the average wait is three to four days.  Some patients notice improvement within 24 hours of injection, and the full result is expected within 14 days.

How Long Will the Results Last?

Once again, each patient can expect variations in duration. The effects typically last for three to four months, but some patients notice slightly more or less.

There are many different factors that affect a person’s susceptibility to wrinkles, including age, genetics, tobacco exposure and sun exposure. As skin loses its elasticity, it becomes more prone to wrinkling. Fortunately, Botox can help!
